Dan joined our team in 2010 and since that time he has contributed increasingly to our team’s management and investment advisory and analytical capabilities. He provides our clients with economic and policy analysis and strategic insights in matters including resource planning and procurement, ratemaking and regulation, and asset valuation. He has extensive experience assessing infrastructure economics, leading market studies, forecasting wholesale electricity prices, and providing expert testimony before state regulatory agencies on resource planning and ratemaking issues. Congratulations to Vineyard Wind on its winning bid in the Massachusetts Section 83C Offshore Wind Energy Generation request for proposals. The Vineyard Wind project is an 800 MW offshore wind farm and electricity transmission project south of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, owned equally by Avangrid Renewables and funds of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. The final acceptance of the bid and the award of the contract is subject to several conditions. Daymark was proud to contribute a report on quantitative and qualitative project benefits – including wholesale market savings and greenhouse gas emission reductions - in support of Vineyard Wind’s successful application.
The entire team here at Daymark congratulates Osaka Gas USA on its acquisition of an ownership share of the Kleen Energy Power Generation Facility, a 620-MW natural gas-fired combined cycle plant in Middletown, Connecticut. Osaka Gas joins three other investors in simultaneously acquiring majority ownership interest in the facility. The state of Massachusetts recently completed an assessment on energy storage, titled State of Charge: Massachusetts Energy Storage Initiative Study, a yearlong comprehensive energy storage study by the Department of Energy Resources (DOER) and the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC). The study evaluates and demonstrates the benefits of deploying energy storage technologies in Massachusetts and also analyzes the economic benefits and market opportunities for energy storage in the state.

The study, conducted by Daymark Energy Advisors and released by the New England Coalition for Affordable Energy, found that New England is at greater risk of higher energy costs and price volatility than estimated a year ago. It also found that recent delays and cancellations of energy projects in the region combined with new energy policies could have greater adverse economic consequences through 2020 than previously estimated.
Daymark Energy Advisors’ Principal Consultant Stan Faryniarz recently attended the Northeast Public Power Association (NEPPA) annual conference in Lake Placid, NY. NEPPA is a private, non-profit trade association that represents and serves 21 consumer-owned utilities in New England.
The four-day annual conference included presentations and expert roundtables that assessed the current state of the energy markets and provided education on northeastern state and federal government initiatives and regulatory environments.

March 11, 2014: Daymark has filed our review of Manitoba Hydro’s proposal to build the Keeyask and Conawapa dams and associated transmission facilities. The analysis, including financial modeling, contract review, transmission economics analysis and risk assessment, was conducted on behalf of Manitoba’s Public Utilities Board which appointed Daymark to its team of independent experts providing technical advice on the $16.4 billion projects.
Update: On July 2, 2014, Manitoba’s Public Utilities Board issued its report with recommendations to the Government of Manitoba regarding Manitoba Hydro’s proposal.
